Nora lies on the bed doing bedtime stretches to ease leg cramps. Her two completely paralyzed legs lie soft and heavy on the sheets, knees and ankles with zero strength. When a cramp hits, the calves suddenly tighten and twitch, toes curling stiff. She has to grab the calves with her hands and pull them back hard, but the legs feel like lead and just spring soft again.

Her fingers sink into the powerless flesh, repeatedly kneading the muscles that spasm on their own. The legs ignore every command and can only be moved and stretched passively. After each cramp fades, they drop limp onto the bed again with a faint residual tremor. She keeps her head down, focused on these two fully unresponsive legs, her movements slow and helpless.
